If you subscribe to No Depression in print (which you should), you know that the opening letter from the editor is called "Hello Stranger" after The Carter Family's song from 1937. Likewise, this month's playlist opens with a new version of the song by country singer-songwriter Kelsey Waldon, which appears on her covers LP There's Always a Song. Waldon and special guest (and fellow Kentuckian) S.G. Goodman offer an up-tempo, ripping take that shows off Goodman's skills as a guitarist and singer.
And truly, there is always a song — 51 songs we wanted to feature that were released this month, to be precise. Check out the whopping playlist below, which includes May Spotlight artist Kaia Kater, the return of The Avett Brothers, bluegrass bass stalwart Becky Buller, musical shape-shifter Swamp Dogg, and more. Check out the Reviews section for more on these and other artists as well.
