We are proud to present this installment of our No Depression Session series in partnership with NYC honky-tonk Lucinda’s and Hiatus Tequila. When Lucinda Williams teamed up with industry lifers Laura McCarthy and Kelley Swindall to create a Southern country bar in NYC’s East Village with a killer jukebox, we knew we needed to find a way to work together.
Jade Jackson opened her ND Session with her take on a Merle Haggard classic, re-written from the female perspective, called "Daddy Tried." Jackson opened for Merle Haggard over a decade ago at the Pozo Saloon outside of her hometown of Santa Margarita, CA, and spent years marinating on a new interpretation. "Working with Merle Haggard's estate to release 'Daddy Tried' is an incredible honor," Jackson shared. "Merle's music has always been a guiding light for me. This song is a tribute to his legacy, but it also tells a story from a perspective we haven't heard before. It ties my roots and past to what's ahead in the future."
Both of the songs featured in Jackson's ND Session will be on her upcoming full-length album, Jadine, slated for release in September 2026.
Setlist:
