In case you missed it in our newsletters or on social media, yesterday marked the launch of No Depression's year-end fundraiser and membership drive! We need to raise $15k by mid-December, so if you dig nonprofit, independent roots music journalism, please help us keep going by chipping in or becoming a supporting member.

Happy Bandcamp Friday to all who celebrate! As a reminder, the music platform waives its share of sales on these select days, meaning that artists receive all of the funds with purchases. For inspiration, check out Bandcamp Daily's list of The Best Country Music on Bandcamp, October 2026, most of which we covered right here at No Depression.
Gillian Welch and David Rawlings announced another album of live recording, already a beloved bootleg among fans, titled Boots No. 3: The Hickory Show. The two-volume edition, recorded by Rawlings and Bill Bost on September 27, 1997 at Hickory, North Carolina’s Acoustic Stage at the Arts and Science Center Auditorium, is due out February 12, 2027 via Acony Records. Welch and Rawlings shared two tracks, as well, a rendition of "Tear My Stillhouse Down" and a cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Pancho & Lefty."
Anna Butterss shared that they're leaving The 400 Unit after three years of touring with Jason Isbell's band. Butterss is also a solo artist, having released an LP titled Mighty Vertebrate two years ago. Check their full statement, along with some sweet photos, below.
In book news, multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi (a frequent collaborator with Rhiannon Giddens) shared that he's co-written a book about pasta with fellow musician-turned-chef Enrico Fantasia. According to the series publisher, Blasta Books, Blasta Pasta is "a collection of recipes and stories that celebrate the rich diversity of Italian regional cooking while also embracing the ingredients and flavours of a new home." The book is due out July 22, 2027. Read more from Turrisi below.
Sending best wishes and all healing vibes to Gordy Quist of The Band of Heathens (ND feature), who shared his diagnosis of stage 3B colorectal cancer with fans on social media. Although he will be stepping back from Band of Heathens tour dates for the foreseeable future, he shared that bookings will still be available at his recording studio, The Finishing School. Still, Quist seems in good spirits in his video, shared below, and encourages butt jokes throughout the process (starting with the blog title for those who want to follow his journey, Save My Ass).
Finally, congratulations are in order for Margo Cilker (ND feature), who just announced her pregnancy with partner and bandmate Forrest VanTuyl, as well as to Alabama Shakes' frontperson Brittany Howard (ND feature), who recently married record executive and artist Anna-Maria Babcock. Read the former's announcement below and more about the latter in a feature over at Vogue.
