Editor's Note: Cat Clyde, whose new LP Mud Blood Bone came out March 13 via Concord, is No Depression's Spotlight Artist for March 2026. Read her feature profile here and stay tuned for more from Clyde all month long.

Ontario-based singer-songwriter Cat Clyde is a master of dynamics across her new album. On "Night Eyes," the final single before Mud Blood Bone came out last Friday, she begins gently enough. But as her voice grows in strength and grit, the piano and pedal steel likewise stomp and sway in time, culminating in an spiteful denouncement: "But know I'll never be a slave again for love."

In this exclusive video for No Depression as part of her Spotlight series this month, Clyde offers a subtler, gentler take on the song. Sitting alone and strumming a hollow-body guitar, she imbues "Night Eyes" with a more somber affect. Under these conditions, the outro, "I'll never be a slave again for love," is less like an attack and more like a retreat to brace for what may come.
