Langhorne Slim stopped by Chelsea Studios NYC for his No Depression Session to share a pair of songs from the new album The Dreamin' Kind (ND Review). Slim stripped the songs back to their essentials with only his acoustic guitar and unmistakable voice, a contrast to the bigger, louder spirit of the record.
Between takes, Slim talked about how the album came together with producer Sam F. Kiszka and drummer Daniel Wagner. What began as casual hangouts slowly turned into something more intentional. “The process started kind of as a non-process,” Slim said. After stretches where everyone’s schedules pulled them in different directions, they eventually found themselves back in the same room, plugging in and following the energy wherever it led. Before long, those living-room jams evolved into a full record.
He opened this ND Session with “Dance On Through,” a hopeful song about staying open to whatever the day might bring. He followed with “Dream Come True,” a reminder that without a dream, you can’t have a dream come true.
