Before the Australian singer/songwriter Mojo Juju went solo and did her soulful pop and rhythm n' blues thing, she was in a large band of exceedingly talented and musically adventurous artists known as Mojo Juju & the Snake Oil Merchants. With the Snake Oil Merchants, Mojo Juju delved into select musical styles of '20s, '30s and '40s, including sinful cabaret jazz, raw juke joint blues, dusty ol' ragtime, swing, and old R&B. The band put their own spin on these styles, often blending them together from a creative palette of colorful sound ideas, and played them live in wild and altogether memorable performances.
In 2010, Mojo Juju & the Snake Oil Merchants released their full-length album Sellin' You Salvation. In 2012, Mojo Juju went solo, releasing a self-titled album. In 2013, Mojo Juju released a special tour 7" on Off Label Records with the songs "Must Be Desire" and "Psycho." In 2015, aside from a brand new solo album and a vocal part in a song called "Dirty Water Hotdogs" on Made for Chickens by Robots' latest 7" In A Semi-Mental Mood, a handful of Mojo Juju's songs with the Snake Oil Merchants were chosen to be in a German film titled Bestefreunde (Best Friend). Inspired by the film, Off Label Records released a Mojo Juju & the Snake Oil Merchants anthology which includes the songs that were used in the movie, as well as songs from the Sellin' You Salvation album.
Mojo Juju & the Snake Oil Merchants' Anthology features fan favorites such as "Transient Being," "The Scat Song," "My Home," "Fisherman's Daughter," "Catch A Fire," and "God & the Devil."
The album is available now at the Off Label Records webstore.
