This past week has been a big one for both the music and media industries. In case you missed it, welcome to the new No Depression! Read on to learn about all the new changes, find answers to some FAQs, and subscribe to the leading source for independent roots music and culture journalism.

In this corner of roots music, mandolinist and singer-songwriter Sierra Hull (ND review of her latest album) was recently featured on PBS News Hour. Check out the segment here and read a previous column about why protecting public media like PBS and NPR is vital for roots musicians.

California-based singer-songwriter ISMAY, who ND profiled in the Fall 2020 "Going Green" issue and whose January 2024 album was reviewed here, released their podcast called "Finding Lucinda" this week. The 14-part series features ISMAY (Avery Hellman) as they explore America and the geographic and creative paths Lucinda Williams followed to success. The podcast series, presented in partnership with The Bluegrass Situation, also has an accompanying documentary that will be released this fall. Learn more and listen at The Bluegrass Situation.

Today also marks seven years since Scott Hutchison of Scottish folk-rock band Frightened Rabbit passed away. Read his obituary here.

In the wider music industry, Vinyl Me, Please announced to its subscribers this week that it has "commenced as Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors... as an alternative to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy procedure." The vinyl subscription service, which was founded in 2012, hopes to complete the sale of its business to Vinyl Liquidation, LLC in mid-May. The email also stated that Vinyl Me, Please hopes all outstanding orders will be fulfilled after the conclusion of the sale and instructed subscribers to file claims via resolutionfa.com. Read more about the Vinyl Me, Please's confusing last few months from the company's local newspaper, The Denver Post.

Pivoting to the media industry, the 2025 Pulitzer Prizes — the highest honor in journalism — were announced this week. Congratulations to all the winners on their vital reporting! Check out the winners and read their work here.
