Last weekend marked the massive 80th birthday celebration in Chicago, titled Souvenirs, honoring the one-and-only John Prine. So many artists came together to celebrate him, including Alynda Segarra (Hurray for the Riff Raff), Andrew Sa, Kathleen Edwards, Hayes Carll, Shemekia Copeland, Valerie June, Steve Earle, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, and many more. All proceeds from ticket sales went to benefit the charity established in Prine's honor, The Hello in There Foundation.
To carry on the momentum from that event, Oh Boy Records announced that The Reelist will be streaming the first celebration of Prine's life and songs, You Got Gold: A Celebration of John Prine. Filmed over two nights in October 2022 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, the gig featured Bonnie Raitt, Brandi Carlile, Tyler Childers, Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yoakam, Jason Isbell, and more. The film, directed by Michael John Warren will be available until the end of 2026. Learn more at yougotgoldmovie.com.
Speaking of live recordings, Nick Shoulders released two videos from his performance at Denver's Gothic Theatre last year. Check out "Dixie Be Damned," which appears on his latest album, Refugia Blues (ND review), and traditional tune "Cindy," featuring Jude Brothers (ND Spotlight profile) below.
Jamgrass band Greensky Bluegrass announced a double LP recorded live from Michigan last year, released in conjunction with Relix. Greensky Bluegrass: Live From Kalamazoo, due out December 15, was recorded over two nights in the band's hometown and features guest appearances from longtime collaborators including Lindsay Lou, Sam Bush and Holly Bowling. Preorders are available here.
Lydia Loveless announced a new EP, Accolades, due out October 30 via Bloodshot Records. Check out the full-band version below and read more about the Ohio-based singer-songwriter's last full-length album, 2023's Nothing’s Gonna Stand in My Way Again here.
Those who were excited about the The Bluegrass Album Band's reissue last month (featuring Tony Rice, J.D. Crowe, Doyle Lawson, Bobby Hicks, and Todd Phillips) will be pleased to know that Craft Recordings will be sharing new new vinyl edition of The Tony Rice Unit's 1978 debut, Acoustics, on December 4.
