Beloved singer-songwriter John Prine would have turned 80 this fall, and his family and the nonprofit set up in his name have announced a tribute concert to take place on October 8 at the Chicago Theatre. Titled Souvenirs: 80 Years of John Prine, the gig will feature a litany of special guests including Alynda Segarra of Hurray for the Riff Raff, Amos Lee, Andrew Sa, Briscoe, Jon Langford, Josh Ritter, Joy Oladokun, Kathleen Edwards, Margo Price, Noeline Hofmann, Ratboys, Shemekia Copeland, Steve Earle, The Cactus Blossoms, The Sullivan Sisters, and more. Prine’s longtime live band will back up all of the vocalists and actor/performer John C. Reilly will host the event. All proceeds benefit The Hello in There Foundation, and grant-making in Prine's memory. Additional birthday and tribute will be revealed soon, as well. Tickets are on sale now.

The album was remarkably authentic in its creation and sentiment; writer Zach Schonfeld got deep into its origins and lasting influence in his feature, "Gone Country: A Cultural History of Country Albums by Non-Country Artists," which ran in the Fall 2024 issue of No Depression. Print issues are still available here and you can explore all of ND's archives here.
