Austin-based, Dutch singer-songwriter Judy Blank's algorithm is completely messed up. This week, she discovered that a typo-riddled AI-generated song had been posted to Spotify under her name. As a result, her streaming numbers have gone down and she's lost followers on the streaming platform. Although the Instagram Stories she shared with updates on the saga have now lapsed, the absurd, tragic, and funny Reel is still live.

Read No Depression's review of Blank's third LP (and debut for Rounder Records), Big Mood, here. And a reminder that the best way to support artists is by buying their music and/or seeing them live.

In other (scary) music tech news, Spotify announced integration with AI software ChatGPT. Learn more about it and how to do it (if you dare) at TechCrunch.

Happy heavenly birthday, John Prine! A documentary-performance of the first "You Got Gold" tribute concert from 2022 will see limited screenings in New York City next month. But for now (and in time for the third anniversary events taking place in Nashville October 7-12), Oh Boy Records and the Hello In There Foundation present the official trailer for You Got Gold — A Celebration of John Prine.

Late night host Stephen Colbert even posted a behind-the-scenes clip on Instagram taking a question from an audience member about Prine. Check it out below and watch Colbert sing a snippet of "How Lucky Can One Man Get."

The American Banjo Museum (based in Oklahoma City) is welcoming five new members to its American Banjo Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Dom Flemons, Noam Pikelny, Fred Van Eps, Sean Moyses, and Vinnie Mondello! Watch the full livestream of the ceremony below.

Langhorne Slim announced a new album titled The Dreamin’ Kind (produced by Greta Van Fleet’s Sam F. Kiszka?!) set to be released on January 16, 2026 via Dualtone Records. The music video for single "Rock N Roll" is here.

Congratulations and fare thee well to Mipso, who played their final two (hometown) shows at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, North Carolina this week. No Depression's former Assistant Editor, Stacy Chandler, broke the news back in May. Check out her exclusive with the band here and watch their final bow below for a few tears.

RIP to Peter Amidon, a mainstay in the Northeast folk music and choral communities (and father to Sam Amidon). The Easthampton, Massachusetts-based Country Dance & Song Society posted the following tribute on Facebook and the younger Amidon shared a thoughtful post on Instagram. Read an obituary in the VT Digger here.

RIP to visual artist Tony Fitzpatrick, who died at the age of 66. Over the course of his career, he did cover artwork for musicians like Lou Reed, The Neville Brothers, and Steve Earle. Read an obituary from the Chicago Sun-Times here.
