RIP music journalist and author Dave Marsh. The long-time critic and reporter passed away at the age of 76 last week. Marsh was mentored by legendary rock writer Lester Bangs and became a notable writer for some of the most foundational pop cultural publications like Creem Magazine, the Village Voice, and Rolling Stone. In 1979, his tome about Bruce Springsteen titled Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story was published to great acclaim and, in its own way, helped propel the popularity of the music biographies. Read more at Variety, as well as this essay titled "Why Dave Marsh Matters" by previous No Depression contributor, author, and music writer Caryn Rose.
