Between 1964 and 1974, Buck Owens and His Buckaroos were country music’s most electrifying band, selling out concerts in the U.S. and around the world. Galloping rhythms, driven by layers of shimmering and sharp steel guitar weaving around steady rhythm guitar and snaking lead riffs, support Owens’ high vocals and the band’s harmonies. During these years, Owens emerged as a bandleader, crafting set lists that combined the band’s hits with deeper album cuts, giving audiences variety every night and also showcasing each band member’s playing.
Now, the 3-CD set Adios, Farewell, Goodbye, Good Luck, So Long: On Stage 1964-1974 provides a glimpse into the popularity of Buck Owens and His Buckaroos during these years, and it offers an overview of the band’s evolution. The set contains 78 live performances, 75 of which appear on CD for the first time. The set features 25 tracks previously unreleased in the U.S. and 20 never before released anywhere. The box set also includes a 56-page book with photos and a thoughtful and detailed essay by Scott B. Bomar.
