NO DEPRESSION SESSIONS at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion: Trey Hensley

Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion '25 drew us even deeper into the rich history of recorded music in the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee and Virginia. Nearly a century has passed since Ralph Peer's historic Bristol Sessions, and the performance space inside The Birthplace of Country Music Museum (BCMM) – the cultural center dedicated to preserving and carrying the tradition forward – provided the most fitting studio location for us to add our own recordings to the already vast catalog.

We met East Tennessee native and 2025 IBMA Guitarist of the Year Trey Hensley inside the BCMM for a solo acoustic three-song session, which demonstrated the mastery that has made him one of the most respected pickers in bluegrass.

All three songs are set to appear on his forthcoming album Can’t Outrun the Blues, including the title track, “Going and Gone,” and a third selection outside his own catalog, a solo take on “Up on Cripple Creek” by The Band.

Setlist:
Can't Outrun The Blues
Going And Gone
Up On Cripple Creek (The Band)
