We had the unique opportunity on our final day at AMERICANAFEST to record a No Depression Session with Jake Owen at his home, half an hour outside Nashville in Kingston Springs, TN. We made our way down the hill of the beautiful grounds, passed a miniature horse grazing near a pond, and parked at the Tiki Tonk, an eclectic event space on the property. We arrived just before the kickoff of the L.A. Rams vs. Tennessee Titans game, cracked open a Sunday morning beverage, and got to work.
Owen offered up the first two tracks from his new album Dreams To Dream, starting with the title track, and continuing with his interpretation of the Waylon Jennings classic, "Them Old Love Songs." Owen co-produced the record with Shooter Jennings in Los Angeles at Sunset Sound, or as Owen writes in the title track, "with Shooter and a five-piece band in the heart of Hollyweird." Covering a Waylon song for the album was a natural fit. Not a bad outcome for an idea that started with a nonchalant comment by Owen on one of Jennings' Instagram posts, and blossomed into the real thing only a few days later.
Please enjoy this performance, and stay tuned for more No Depression x AMERICANAFEST '25 sessions in the pipeline. Special thanks to everybody who made this session happen: Jake and his team for setting the stage at the Tiki Tonk, Emily Ginsberg for connecting the dots, and Destiny McGregor and Rebecca Lee Daniels at AMERICANAFEST for tying it all together.
