No Depression Sessions at AmericanaFest: Bahamas

The Nova Scotia-based artist Bahamas — government name Afie Jurvanen — laid three songs on us from his latest record, a country-adjacent gem called Bootcut, at this No Depression Session at AmericanaFest 2023 at Jaan’s House in Nashville.

Like many other musicians, Jurvanen spent a lot of 2020 figuring out how to stay musically active while staying home. One major creative outlet for Jurvanen was his livestreaming series called “Live to Tape,” which helped form remote relationships with a number of excellent Nashville players. Jurvanen’s desire to play with them IRL set the stage for his most twangy and stripped back album to date. The guest list on Bootcut, which came out last September, is a doozy, including mandolin god Sam Bush, harmonicist Mickey Raphael, and Vince freakin’ Gill.
