The old saying goes ‘it's not what you know, but who you know.’ Even though talent still holds sway n roots music, it’s still nice to have a friend in the business you can turn to. That’s doubly true if you’re crowdfunding. Having a well-known artist appear on your album means an entirely new fanbase who may not have heard of you before looking at your campaign page and, hopefully, pledging. This month, I've got three campaigns with notable guests either appearing on the album or sitting in the producer's chair.

Eliot Bronson- Seventh Album (click here to view campaign)
Over the course of six albums and over fifteen years of touring, folk songwriter Eliot Bronson has been impressing audiences with his gentle melodies and atmospheric compositions. He's an award-winning artist whose songs can be heard on television shows like Yellowstone and Criminal Minds. So it's no surprise that, during all those years of touring, he's made some friends along the way. One of those friends is Oliver Wood of The Wood Brothers, who will be playing on his new album and using his studio to deliver what he is calling “a departure from anything you've done before.” To reach the $25,000 Kickstarter goal Bronson set, he is offering a number of backer perks. The album will be available for pre-order in digital, CD, and vinyl formats, the physical editions signed. You can also get a limited edition t-shirt, a thank you in the album's liner notes, a unique pen and ink drawing by Bronson, and the chance to curate one of Bronson's livestream shows.

Little Moon Travelers- Long Haul (click here to view campaign)
Forming in the fertile roots/jam fields of Colorado (String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, etc), genre-benders Little Moon Travelers had a long lineage of roots artists to look up to. But when it came time to record their debut album, Long Haul, they headed to the East Coast to tap another artist who knows a thing or two about blurring genre lines, Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth. Born of impromptu jam sessions during the Covid Pandemic, Little Moon Travelers is a young band, but one that has already impressed at festivals like Winter Wonder Grass. Just how much they've impressed comes by the fact that they've already surpassed their initial $16,000 Kickstarter goal and are now into stretch funding for things like publicity and producing music videos. On their Kickstarter page, you can get their album in digital, CD, and vinyl formats. You can also get backer perks like a one hour songwriting lesson, limited edition belt buckles, and a custom pair of skis crafted by the band's Eric Baker.

Danni Nicholls- Making Moves- (click here to view campaign)
I was fortunate enough to catch Danni Nicholls at an Americanafest showcase a few years back and was impressed by both her powerful voice and by the power of her lyrics. Apparently, I'm not the only one who she has impressed as the lineup of some of Nashville's best that Nicholls has assembled for her new album Making Moves, is stellar. It starts with fellow Nashville singer-songwriter Sarah Peacock, who will be handling the producer role for the project. She also has another notable local songwriter, Robby Hecht, sitting in on vocals. If all that isn't enough to get you pledging to her $25,000 Kickstarter campaign, she's offering a number of backer perks as well, starting with the album in digital and signed CD and vinyl. You can also get a set of pictures taken in the studio during the making of the album, a meet and greet at a show, or a pair of Nicholls' guitars.
