Brandy Clark has announced that her fifth studio album, the bird, will be released on Jan. 15, 2027 via Reprise Records. The 11-track LP is produced by Shooter Jennings and was recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles with her road band (Gabe Burdulia, Amanda McCoy, and Erin Nelson). Clark will also embark on her "Take Flight World Tour" beginning in January of next year. To tide us over until then, she dropped the album's lead single, "American Roots," which draws inspiration from Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." Check it out below.

Sierra Ferrell has shared another new single, "Pair of Dice," after releasing "Trying to Love You" back in August. Ferrell reunites with co-writer Melody Walker ("American Dreaming," "Dollar Bill Bar") on this new track, which also features Gabriel Kelley (bass, drums, piano, Wurlitzer, B-3, guitars, congas, percussion), Luke Munday (banjo) and Billy Contreras (fiddle). Give "Pair of Dice" a listen below.

Meshell Ndegeocello has dropped another excellent single from her forthcoming duets album Synonym (out Oct. 2 via Blue Note), reinterpreting Bob Dylan's “With God on Our Side” with Bill Callahan and Chris Thile. “Bill Callahan's voice to me is enchanting and just draws you in,’’ Ndegeocello says in the album's press materials. “And then my other angel is Chris Thile. He’s a very grounded human being; I just love the earthiness of his voice.” Synonym will also feature duets with Cynthia Erivo, Cat Power, Lianne La Havas, Chaka Khan, Brandi Carlile, Madison Cunningham, Laura Lee (of Khruangbin), Lizz Wright, Emily King, Moses Sumney, Destin Conrad, Nick Hakim, Robert Glasper, ANOHNI, WILLOW, Evann McIntosh, and Ink.

Morgan Wade and John Paul White (formerly of The Civil Wars) have teamed up on "Old History," a new single that raises the question of what it takes to become unforgettable. “‘Old History’ means so much to me. John Paul and I have been holding onto this one since 2020 when we wrote it on Zoom,” Wade said in a statement. “I’m so excited that we finally found the right moment to put it out there. Hope y’all love it.”

Ahead of his new album Shaving A Dead Man (out Oct. 23 via Bloodshot Records), JP Harris has released the video for "Hang Me." The single features Chance McCoy (Old Crow Medicine Show) on fiddle and harmonies; McCoy also produced, engineered, and mixed the album.

Queer country supergroup The Cowgays (Brooke Eden, Chris Housman, and Adam Mac) have dropped a cheeky new video for their single "See You in Texas," which features Alyssa Edwards of RuPaul's Drag Race fame. Check it out below.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Dualtone Records has announced the release of Keep Pressing On: 25 Years Of Dualtone, due out Dec. 4. The 17-track compilation will include rarities and covers from Dualtone artists past and present, including The Lumineers, flipturn, Mt. Joy, Shakey Graves, Kathleen Edwards, and Langhorne Slim. The Lumineers have dropped the previously unreleased "Isabelle Fly" in anticipation of the album. “In April of 2012, we had just released our debut album and were on a pretty intense run; every day seemed to involve the trifecta of morning acoustic radio performances, interviews and shows,” the band says in a statement. “On the humid Nashville evening of April 27th, we met an angel in the form of our label head, Paul Roper. We were about to play the Basement, below Grimey’s record shop, and Paul could see we were truly haggard. Earlier that day, we had done a long photo shoot which felt awkward.  Paul appeared like a mirage in the desert, opening his trunk to us to reveal his bounty of Dominoes Pizza and a 12-pack of Stella’s. As we ate and drank, we felt looked after. And although it was a small gesture, it defined what Paul and Dualtone have done for us all these years. They do the little things and manage to always show up. It’s a rare quality in a label and a person, and I’m grateful for it.

“The song ‘Isabelle Fly’ never actually took flight. It felt like some sort of failed attempt. But I’ve always loved this song anyway, and am glad it’s got a place on this 25 year compilation so we can share this song finally.”

Dolly Parton surprised fans at the Americana Music Association Awards with a pre-recorded, posthumous video message accepting her Lifetime Achievement award on Wednesday night. "Well, hey, it’s Dolly, and I am so honored to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association,” she said in the video. “I mean, roots music, or what is now called Americana music, is what I grew up playing back in the Smoky Mountains. It’s that same music that drew me back to East Tennessee back in 1997 to write and record my album Hungry Again. And that project really opened the door to a series of bluegrass and acoustic albums that changed the course of my career in so many ways. Now, new fans discovered these albums, new Americana music communities embraced them, and now, looking back at it all, I see this era of my career as a musical renaissance of sorts.” She wrapped up by thanking “everybody at the AMA for recognizing me with this award” and adding, “It’s a great honor, truly, and just know that I will always love you.” (You can read our full AMAs recap here.)
