With her first two albums, Jade Bird demonstrated an affinity for country, folk-rock, and pop templates. On her latest, Who Wants to Talk About Love?, she again explores genre intersections and overlaps. While the integrations she reaches for don’t always come to fruition, the project does highlight her evolving songcraft and undeniable growth as a vocalist.
On opener “Stick Around”, Bird exhibits her range, veering from low to higher pitches, her voice bolstered by an aggressively strummed acoustic guitar. The track blends country undertones and a pop-heavy production MO. “Nobody”, too, is built around a catchy strum, Bird’s voice again dipping and soaring.
